Baby names, with the data behind them

Baby Name List holds 19,982 baby names with their meanings and origins, browsable A–Z and by origin. 6,309 of them have a full page carrying their record in United States birth data: a chart of births by year, the year the name peaked, and where it ranks today. That record comes from the Social Security Administration and runs from 1880 to 2025. Names are grouped across 41 origins, and every meaning recorded for a name is shown rather than only the first.

Where a name is given to both girls and boys, it gets a page for each, because the two tell different stories: Riley ranks #48 for girls and #207 for boys, on different curves with different peak years. And where the data cannot support a claim, the site says so. The Social Security Administration withholds any count under five per state per year, so a state breakdown appears only for the 2,413 names whose records account for enough of the total to be representative.
